CRU provides a wide range of services to the global mining, metals, and fertilizer industries. Our independent analysis, consulting and events services help industry stakeholders to understand in detail the markets in which they operate, the issues impacting their business, and their strategic and commercial opportunities now and in the years ahead.
Our offering is built upon three core strengths: our independence, our multicommodity coverage and our global presence. Our absolute independence allows customers to rely on our impartial and trustworthy views. Our multicommodity coverage ensures we understand both direct and indirect market issues, so that our research is not conducted in isolation. Finally, our overseas offices and analysts based in key commodity hubs across Asia, Europe and the Americas allow us to build strong relationships to gather local information from the regions driving our industries, so we can bring our customers deep insights into local markets across global supply chains.

Our teams based in key locations mean that we are close to customers, as well as close to the issues that matter to them.
CRU provides market-leading service through close contact with our customers. Our analysts and price assessors interact with market participants frequently.
We do not rely on other models and methodologies. Whether it is forecasting demand, supply or assessing prices, our work is based on a proprietary foundation, developed over years.
We also provide cost services to help users gain an understanding of industry cost structures, rank facilities against each other, investigate investment opportunities and conduct accurate strategic planning.
Price assessments for the mining industry
CRU publishes detailed specifications of more than 500 price assessments and complies with the IOSCO code of best practice. We base assessments on a strong and transparent methodology, with trained price assessors and expert analysts working together to ensure prices are unbiased and accurate.
An example of CRU’s strength in prices is the Mid West Hot Rolled Coil price, which is the established and dominant index in North America, used by 85% of buyers and sellers who use any benchmark. CRU has a strong position in many commodities including bulk ferroalloys, chrome, aluminium, minor metals, stainless steel, fertilizers and other finished steel markets.
We have a global team of price specialists and analysts who contribute to our price assessments, including staff in London, Beijing, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Pittsburgh, Santiago and Shanghai.
Specialised consulting services
CRU has a dedicated consultancy arm, CRU Consulting, which provides customers with practical advice and tailored business solutions to help their operations. CRU Consulting benefits from unrestricted access to all of CRU’s research, analysis and forecasting, as well as being located in key commodity regions around the globe.

Some say price assessment is a thankless task. There is a grain of truth in that statement. When buyers and sellers use prices to settle physical or financial contracts, there will almost always be one counterparty who would like the published number to be something different.
