Uranium One Mining has begun its first exploration programme at the 90,000ha (222,395 acres) Yuty Prometeo–San Jose uranium project located in the Paraná Basin, southeast of Paraguay.

The company has obtained a prospection permit from Paraguay’s Vice Ministry of Mining and Energy (VMME) to move forward with exploration activities across the property.

The exploration activity is focused on evaluating historical data, investigating previously reported uranium geochemical anomalies, and identifying areas for future drilling.

Part of the initial work includes the verification of old drilling locations originally attributed to Anschutz, as well as geological reconnaissance of high-priority sections of the project.

According to Uranium One, the current programme involves on-the-ground assessment of field access routes and terrain, documentation and inspection of legacy drill holes, and geological sampling throughout the property.

The company will make use of field radiometric measurements using a portable scintillometer to record natural gamma radiation in rocks and soils, particularly in the parts of the project where uranium anomalies have previously been described.

Field teams will examine exposed geological formations, outcrops, and quarries to collect geological data and samples.

In total, up to 100 rock or soil samples are planned from selected areas, supported by photographic records and GPS data, to help refine targets for further exploration.

The Yuty Prometeo concession lies adjacent to Uranium Energy’s Yuty Project within a broader uranium exploration region in Paraguay.

Uranium One states that mineralisation in neighbouring sites may not be present on its own properties.

Last month, the US Department of State announced new US–Paraguay initiatives for cooperation around peaceful nuclear uses, alongside a separate $12m investment by Uranium Energy in its own uranium concession in the country.

Uranium One CEO David Greenway said: “We are encouraged by the historical exploration data, previously identified uranium geochemical anomalies and the project’s strategic location within the Paraná Basin.

“Of particular significance is the Prometeo concession’s direct proximity to Uranium Energy’s Yuty Project, which hosts an established uranium resource. While mineralisation on adjacent properties is not necessarily indicative of mineralisation on our property, this regional geological setting provides an important foundation for our exploration strategy.”
