The contract covers a range of mining vehicles including loaders, trucks and drills. It also includes digital monitoring systems such as Sandvik’s Remote Monitoring Service.
AutoMine automation will be provided with the loaders and some of the drills.
Deliveries are scheduled to commence in Q3 2026, with most units expected to be supplied between 2026 and 2028.
Sandvik business area mining president Mats Eriksson said: “We are very pleased to deepen our partnership with JCHX at the Khoemacau Copper Mine and look forward to support the expansion of the underground mining operations with our leading solutions, combining advanced equipment, services and digital solutions.”
Located in north-west Botswana’s Kalahari Copper Belt, the Khoemacau Copper Mine is undergoing significant expansion.
The mine is said to have employed more than 2,200 staff and contractors on-site, with 90% from Botswana.
Operated under a joint venture structure, MMG holds a controlling 55% stake in the mine.
The partnership intends to leverage MMG’s operational and project management experience and respond to increasing copper demand worldwide.
Khoemacau is a copper and silver operation with an estimated lifespan of more than two decades.
The mine’s output is positioned as a supply source for international industries including electrification, renewable power, electric vehicle manufacturing and construction.
In 2025, Khoemacau finalised a $936m feasibility study for its expansion project, with plans to raise copper metal in concentrate output from 60,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) to 130,000tpa.
In April 2026, Sandvik received an order from Glencore for the supply of three DR413i rotary blasthole drill rigs to reopen the Bajo de la Alumbrera copper mine in Argentina. The order was finalised in Q1 2026.
