Macarthur Minerals has encountered multiple zones resembling a lithium brine aquifer at its Reynolds Springs lithium brine project in Railroad Valley, Nevada, US.

The company reported the presence of numerous spikes in conductivity in six of the eight logs at the Reynolds Springs project, which is located around 180m north of Las Vegas, Nevada.

"These results reinforce the potential for the project to host lithium brines as suggested by a large geochemical shallow soils lithium anomaly in lake sediments."

Macarthur Minerals president and executive chairman Cameron McCall said: “Macarthur Minerals believes this is the start of something very significant in the US lithium sector, and is excited about the results of the down-hole logging study that shows several zones interpreted as potential brine aquifers at its Reynolds Springs Project in Nevada.

“These results reinforce the potential for the project to host lithium brines as suggested by a large geochemical shallow soils lithium anomaly in lake sediments that was previously reported by Macarthur Minerals.”

The company noted that the geological attributes of the Railroad Valley resemble that of Clayton Valley.

Railroad Valley is a topographically closed playa basin, which is fault bounded with several active thermal springs. It is located in east-central Nevada.

Macarthur Minerals plans to proceed with the completion of down-hole logging studies of additional nearby wells in future phases of the development,  which will allow the company to re-enter one or more abandoned wells to sample the brine target zones.

In addition, the company intends to interpret the downhole geophysical logs for nine additional abandoned oil and gas wells situated close to the project.
