US-based Arch Coal’s Black Thunder Mine located in Wright, Wyoming, has ordered for ten EVO-MT 9300 LNG Conversion Systems from Gaseous Fuel Systems (GFS) for installation on Komatsu 930E haul trucks.
With the latest order, the company will assess the benefits of using liquid natural gas (LNG) in its mining operations.
The new systems will be configured for use with either cummins or MTU engines at the mine.
The Black Thunder surface coal mine is located in the Powder River basin, which contains one of the largest deposits of coal in the world.
At present, Arch Coal has a fleet of LNG-powered Komatsu 830E units that have been in operation at the coal mine since January 2014.
The newly converted Komatsu 930E haul trucks are set to join this existing fleet.
