According to EMED Mining, the latest licence represents the final permitting component that is needed to initiate mining activities at the Rio Tinto Copper Project.

"The project will initially anticipate a 14-year open-pit mining operation to extract 600,000t of copper."

EMED Mining CEO Alberto Lavandeira said: "The receipt of the licence is a major milestone for the company as it represents the final permit required to start building up production over the next few months, ahead of the originally anticipated target date of January 2016."

Located in the Iberian Pyrite Belt, 65km north-west of Seville, in the Province of Huelva, the open-pit copper mine total investment will amount to more than €300m.
