Prairie Mining has secured approval of a spatial development plan (rezoning) for its semi-soft coking coal (SSCC) Jan Karski mine in South East Poland’s Lublin province.

The approval was granted by the Gmina (Municipality) of Siedliszcze and will enable the construction of the Jan Karski Mine site in the location of Kulik.

The development comes after the company completed community consultation and submitted all requisite applications needed to effect the rezoning of land for mining use.

Simultaneously, Poland’s Ministry of Agriculture approved rezoning of 56ha of agricultural land for industrial use that will enable Prairie to undertake construction of a mine site, shafts and associated surface infrastructure.

"With approval of the spatial development plan, we have taken a major step forward towards applying for a mining concession in order to build the Jan Karski mine together with our strategic partner China Coal, and ultimately unlock significant value for all stakeholders."

Prairie Mining CEO Ben Stoikovich said: “With approval of the spatial development plan, we have taken a major step forward towards applying for a mining concession in order to build the Jan Karski mine together with our strategic partner China Coal, and ultimately unlock significant value for all stakeholders.”

The company is planning to submit the environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) for securing environmental consent and mining concession application in the near future.

Receipt of the environmental consent represents the final step before submission of the mining concession application.

Prairie is currently working on the development of a coal marketing strategy through evaluation of potential buyers for production from the Jan Karski project.
