Poland’s largest coal company, state-run PGG, has temporarily closed two of its mines following outbreaks of Covid-19.

PGG said that it had confirmed 38 coronavirus cases in the Murcki-Staszic mine in Katowice and 32 cases in the Jankowice mine in Rybnik. The company has decided to temporarily close these mines due to most of the mine workers now quarantining. The closures will be in place until 3 May.

Most of Poland’s power generation comes from coal. The country has recorded 11,761 cases of Covid-19, with 539 deaths.
