Multi-commodity exploration firm Sula Iron & Gold has completed initial field work targeting gold mineralisation at its Ferensola project in Sierra Leone.

The field work included a detailed ground magnetometer and geochemical soil survey over several of the company’s gold targets at the 153km² project, which is prospective for iron and gold.

The project is located within the northern sector of the Sula-Kangari Greenstone belt in Sierra Leone.

Results of the work are expected by the end of the first quarter 2014, and Sula will use them to identify future drilling targets.

The company said Ferensola is known to host gold mineralisation along deep-seated faults, lineaments and shear structures.

Five primary gold mineralisation targets have been identified to date within the licence area.

Sula completed detailed ground work featuring a 15km² geophysical and geochemical soil programme.

The company has finished more than 150 line kilometres of ground magnetic surveying on a 100m line spacing to delineate geological structures over two principal target areas, the Lagunda and Yanfarina prospects, which are situated within the western-central zone of the project.

Sula chief executive Nick Warrell said: "With an initial focus on the Lagunda and Yanfarina prospects and further targets yet to be explored, I am confident that we are set to significantly enhance Ferensola’s gold resource potential this coming year."

Warrell added that Sula will continue to operate a dual exploration programme and is focussed on delineating a maiden iron JORC resource later this year.
