Comstock Mining is to expand the mining and processing capability of its landmark special use permit (SUP) no. 2000-222-A-4, following unanimous approval from the Storey County Board of Commissioners, Nevada, US.

According to Comstock, the permit incorporates strategic land additions that have been acquired recently into the existing SUP, totalling around 100-acres.

Comstock Mining CEO Corrado De Gasperis said: "These land acquisitions border our planned mine expansions on the east side of the Lucerne mine, in close proximity to where current exploration and development drilling is ongoing and also along the northern borders of our existing heap leach operation, making future heap expansions more practical and efficient.

"These land acquisitions border our planned mine expansions on the east side of the Lucerne mine, in close proximity to…current exploration and development drilling."

"We continue expanding our strategic land position and permitted footprint to improve the efficiency of both near and longer-term expansions."

Last year, Comstock applied for and received amendments to modify and expand permitted and allowable uses for its Lucerne Resource Area.

This area holds the company’s classified gold and silver resources and the amendment applies to both surface and underground mining, as well as processing and milling, mine definition, exploration, development and other ancillary uses.

Following the amendments, the overall permitted boundary will be increased to more than 1,300-acres from the existing 180-acres, allowing for the expansion of mining and processing operations.

The permitted private property boundary will also increase from the current 78-acres to more than 425-acres, with an improvement witnessed in the ongoing mine planning and exploration for the assessment of mineral deposits.
