The government of British Columbia in Canada has issued a major permit to African Queen Mines for approval of the plan and reclamation programme for the Yellowjacket Gold Mine.

The Major Mine Permit No: M-235 contains various terms and conditions applicable to work programmes and mine operations that would be carried out in future.

Covering an area of 79.56km² of strategic ground 9km east of Atlin, the project includes hard rock, as well as placer gold prospects.

Previous operators suspended mining at Yellowjacket Gold due to various reasons including engineering and equipment problems, as well as financial issues that cropped up from the recession in the industry.

Initially, African Queen plans to develop a new geologic model for the project through exploration.

Simultaneously, the company is also assessing the utility of plant and equipment on-site, in addition to performing engineering studies designed to optimise results from future mining operations.

Recently, African Queen acquired four additional mineral claims under the BC Mineral Tenure Act aggregating 2,411.38ha adjacent to its Yellowjacket Gold Project.

The company is also exploring its Rongo (Odundu) Gold project consisting of about 97km² in Kenya for gold and other metals under a joint venture with a Kenyan company.
