Proactive Controls for Highwall Instability

GeoStabilization International has released a paper discussing some of the factors that contribute to highwall instability, including rockfalls in open pit mining operations and current best practices to mitigate against geohazards and to introduce some proactive controls.

Engineering controls such as slope reinforcement, adequate blast vibration limiting techniques and rockfall containment systems are an effective means to guard against rockfalls, unstable ground and challenging geologic conditions.
