Honeydew-based Watson-Marlow Bredel SA has won a R1.2 million order to supply 32 direct-coupled and peristaltic pumps to the Two Rivers Platinum Project in Mpumalanga.
The contract boosts the company’s order book for pumps to South African platinum mines to more that R16 million joint venture between African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) and Implants and is expected to produce 2.2 million run-of-mine tons of one a year.
“The mine’s concentrator plant, which is of standard MF2 design, will process 225 000 t of ore a month,” says Watson-Marlow’s general manager Nico van Schalkwyk. “We’ve supplied 10 Bredel SPX pumps for the plant’s thickener underflow process, 10 Bredels for transfer pumps and five Bredels and seven Watson-Marlow 520UN pumps respectively for various dosing applications,” he explains.
Bredel’s new generation SPX pumps offer improved durability and easier maintenance – a result of their direct-coupled design which creates a pump that is 25% stronger, 10% lighter uses 30% fewer parts and has a 30% smaller footprint than previous models.
Unique features of Watson-Marlow Bredel’s computerised peristaltic pump sizing programme are ‘WISE’ and ‘BRAINS’. “They accurately specify the pump and pump sizes, layout, speeds, hose material and any other factors necessary to optimise the efficiency of each installation, says van Schalkwyk.”
“Added to this is the fact that our peristaltic pumps can meet virtually any capacity and control requirement using options of fixed or variable speed, digital, analogue or manual control, and single or multi-channel flows,” he concludes.
