At the annual shareholders meeting held on 25 June, the resolution to appoint John Deutch as the second (non-executive) nominee director of Hansen Transmissions International NV was passed.

Mr Deutch is an institute professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he has been a member of the faculty since 1970. He is a leading authority on technology, energy, international security, environmental science and public policy issues, with more than 140 publications.

He has held numerous senior posts in the US Government, including director of central intelligence (1995 to 1996), deputy secretary of defence (1994 to 1995), undersecretary of defence for acquisitions of technology, director of energy research and undersecretary of the US Department of Energy.

He has served on numerous high-level commissions including the President’s Committee of Advisors on Science and Technology (1997 to 2001) and the White House Science Council (1985 to 1989). He has served as director for a broad range of leading companies and international organisations during the past five years, including Schlumberger and Cummins Engine, and currently serves as a director of Citigroup, Raytheon and Cheniere Energy.
