The flexible teeth separate the screening apertures bend and fold in case a stone gets stuck in the holes. This bending is proportional to the tooth size and therefore to the aperture dimension. For this reason only stones having the same area of the apertures can pass through them, whereas bigger stones are pushed upwards thanks to the elastic action of teeth.
