The top five companies accounted for 63% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that ENEOS filed the most batteries patents within the mining industry in Q3 2023. The company filed 14 batteries-related patents in the quarter, compared with 15 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Mitsui Mining & Smelting with 12 batteries patent filings, JFE (9 filings), and Toyo Seikan Group (6 filings) in Q3 2023.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 17% share of total patent filings
The largest share of batteries related patent filings in the mining industry in Q3 2023 was in China with 17%, followed by Japan (14%) and the US (14%). The share represented by China was 2% lower than the 19% share it accounted for in Q2 2023.
