GoldHaven Resources has begun its inaugural diamond drilling programme at the Copeçal Gold Project in the Juruena Magmatic Arc in north-central Brazil.
The drilling programme aims to evaluate two primary targets, Copeçal East and Copeçal West, which were identified using a combination of soil and auger drilling geochemistry, as well as magnetic, very low frequency (VLF) electromagnetic and induced polarisation surveys.
The Copeçal Project's targets are the result of systematic and rigorous exploration in a greenfield terrain, the company stated.
This project is located among significant gold discoveries and developments in the region.
The Juruena region, initially identified by AngloGold Ashanti, is considered to be one of Brazil's promising greenfield belts.
AngloGold implemented a comprehensive stream sediment sampling initiative as part of its regional targeting strategy, identifying numerous gold-anomalous drainages.
These findings included areas around the current Copeçal Project.
Following the initial reconnaissance, more comprehensive soil geochemistry and geophysical surveys were conducted, identifying the prominent east and west target zones.
GoldHaven has commenced drilling in these defined areas.
AngloGold Ashanti eventually shifted focus from Brazil due to several reasons including a global downturn in exploration investment and its strategic shift following the discovery of the Tropicana deposit in Australia.
