Underground mining contractor Byrnecut has purchased 20 Sandvik underground drills, loaders and trucks, along with five raise boring systems, to support its activities in Canada, Australia, West Africa and southern Africa.

The investment includes four Sandvik DD422i development drills, four Toro LH621i loaders with AutoMine, four Toro TH663i underground trucks, two DL432i longhole drills and one DL422i longhole drill.

Byrnecut is also acquiring four Rhino 100 mobile raise boring machines and one Rhino uphole module.

Byrnecut Australia managing director Pat Boniwell said: “Our relationship with Sandvik has been built over many years on trust, collaboration and consistent performance.

“As our business continues to grow globally, we need equipment that delivers the productivity, reliability and technology our customers expect.

“This investment strengthens our fleet with proven underground equipment, automation capabilities and the global support we need to deliver for our customers.”

The orders were placed in June 2026, and delivery of the equipment has already begun, with shipments scheduled to continue until June 2028.

The new machinery will support both new and existing underground mining projects across Byrnecut’s sites in the specified regions.

Sandvik and Byrnecut have maintained a long-standing partnership for the supply of underground mining solutions across various regions.

Byrnecut will also use Sandvik’s global support network to maintain equipment availability and productivity throughout the service life of the new fleet.

Sandvik mining president Patrick Murphy said: “Byrnecut has been a trusted partner for many years, and we are proud to continue supporting its global growth through this significant fleet investment.

“This investment demonstrates Byrnecut’s confidence in Sandvik’s underground equipment portfolio and our ability to support customers consistently across multiple continents.

“Together we are focused on delivering safer, more productive and increasingly automated underground mining operations.”

Last month, Sandvik secured an order from Mexican mining contractor Constructora Minera Villagómez for the supply of underground mining equipment.
