PT Borneo Alumina has selected a Black & Veatch-led project management consortium (PMC) to develop an alumina processing facility in Indonesia.

Set to be the first of its kind in Indonesia, the processing facility would be located in the West Kalimantan province.

It will feature a one million tonne per annum (Mtpa) smelter-grade alumina refinery and a 2×40,000 normal cubic metre per hour (Nm3/hr) coal gasification plant.

The facility will also comprise a 3×25 megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant.

Black & Veatch will lead the consortium and will be responsible for the design review and equipment inspections. It will also provide power and coal gasification subject matter expertise for the refinery.

Other partners in the consortium are Canada-based minerals industry engineering company Progesys and Indonesian construction management company Jaya CM.

Progesys will manage the alumina refinery process design scope, while Jaya CM will provide site construction engineers and inspectors for the project.

PWC will be responsible for evaluating engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) bids, as well as reviewing design engineering.

According to Black & Veatch, the consortium will also monitor major equipment supply and conduct factory acceptance tests, as well as oversee site construction and commissioning.
