Vale has launched its iron ore distribution centre in Perak, Malaysia, and will invest $1.4bn for the first phase of the project.
The centre will have a throughput capacity of 60Mtpa
Vale will transport the iron ore from Brazil in very large ore carriers to be distributed to clients across the Asia Pacific region.
The project is in line with the firm’s strategy to develop an integrated worldwide production and logistics system and is set to shorten the distance between Vale’s iron ore mines in Brazil and the growing demand from consumer markets in Asia.
Perak’s Chief Minister Y.A.B Dato’ Seri DiRaja Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir said that the presence of the distribution centre will create new opportunities for companies in the consumer and commercial areas, as well as support distribution logistics.
