Liberia’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved Tawana Resources’ annual environmental audit report for its southern licence (MEL 1223/14) at the Mofe Creek project.

The agency has also granted a renewal permit for the project’s northern exploration licence (MEL 12029).
According to the company, both licences constitute its 100%-owned Mofe Creek project.
Prior to granting the approval, EPA carried out an independent audit of the existing operational activities of Tawana that are related to exploration activities being conducted over both licences.
Tawana Resources executive chairman and CEO Wayne Richards said: "Securing the permit renewal and approval of the annual audit report is necessary for the advancement of operations at Mofe Creek and is critical to our commitment to the project’s development.

The exploration programme performed by Tawana is said to be in accordance with the requirements of the EPA permit issuance.
Located within one of Liberia’s iron ore mining districts, the Mofe Creek Project is 10km along strike from the previously mined Bomi Hills mine.
The project is characterised by coarse grained, itabirite. It is located 20km from the coast for potential haul-road trucking or conveyor of product to the coast and transhipment through barge to deeper water.
