The Government of Ontario has awarded $1.37m to Boart Longyear Canada to support the development of a mineral exploration drilling site and drilling systems technology.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) invests in these projects to improve safety for drillers and reduce drilling costs.

Ontario Minister of Northern Development and Mines Michael Gravelle said: “The Ontario Government is very pleased that Boart Longyear’s management team has chosen the Sudbury region for its newest R&D facility.

“It is a very significant step in building up our R&D mining cluster in Northern Ontario.”

Boart Longyear will get the support of the NOHFC and a corporate capital investment to work at the Northern Centre for Advanced Technology (NORCAT) to test and develop several technologies.

The technologies include driller-deployable geochemical technologies and other new technologies that will increase productivity.
