Global resources company MMG has announced that extraction has concluded at the company’s open-cut zinc site, the Century mine in Australia.
The mine’s associated concentrate dewatering and ship-loading facilities are located at the Karumba Port on the Gulf of Carpentaria.

MMG chief operating officer Marcelo Bastos said: "Century has consistently made a significant contribution to MMG, both financially and through the commitment to our growth objective by the dedicated team of thousands of workers over the life of the mine."
"The completion of mining at Century is a considerable factor in the shrinking global supply of zinc. We remain positive about the long-term fundamentals for zinc, which supports our decision to invest in Dugald River, one of the world’s highest grade undeveloped zinc deposits."
According to the company, processing of stockpiled ore at Century will continue.
Processing of approximately 700,000t of Century ore build-up would be completed during the final months of mining operations in 2015.

By GlobalDataMMG also plans to process the stockpiled ore from the Dugald River project in north-east Queensland at Century into early 2016.
This year, the mine is expected to produce 320,000t-370,000t from zinc concentrate.
Bastos added: "Our ability to maximise value throughout the mining lifecycle is demonstrated by first-half production at Century of 221,049t of zinc, just 1% lower than the same period in 2014, despite transition to lower grades in the final stage of mining,"
Century is located at Lawn Hill, 250km north-west of Mount Isa in the Lower Gulf of Carpentaria and began open-pit production in 1999.
The mine produced and processed zinc and lead concentrates at Lawn Hill during its operations carried out for a period of 16 years.
