The coal deposit was discovered in 2012 and has a JORC compliant resource of 335 million tonnes of coal in multiple seams, ranging from high-quality domestic thermal coal, export quality coal and material potentially suitable for low ash pulverised coal injection.

Sedgman was commissioned by A-Cap to assess the project’s potential for development, covering geological, engineering and marketing works.

"We knew the Mea coal project had distinct advantages because the quality of the coal is superior to many other deposits in Botswana."

Sedgman’s study indicates that Mea Coal project is robust and recommends proceeding to a definitive feasibility study.

The company is presently assessing options to advance the discovery to feasibility and production.

A-Cap CEO Paul Thomson said the study will support the company’s decision to assess the potential of the project as well as the development options available for the discovery.

"From our initial drilling results we knew the Mea coal project had distinct advantages because the quality of the coal is superior to many other deposits in Botswana," Thomson said.

"We chose Sedgman as they have excellent experience in Botswana and South Africa, both within the coal sector and also developing mining operations within the region."
