Canada’s metals & mining industry sees a drop of 14.8% in deal activity in November 2020

Canada’s metals & mining industry saw a drop of 14.8% in overall deal activity during November 2020, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 46 deals worth $2.09bn were announced in November 2020, compared to the 12-month average of 54 deals.

M&A was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 45 deals which accounted for 97.8% of all deals.

In second place was private equity with one deals respectively accounting for 2.2% of overall deal activity in the country’s metals & mining industry during the month.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in Canada’s metals & mining industry with total deals worth $2.08bn, while private equity totalled $14.96m.

The top five metals & mining industry deals accounted for 98.9% of the overall value during November 2020.

The combined value of the top five metals & mining deals stood at $2.07bn, against the overall value of $2.09bn recorded for the month.

The top five metals & mining industry deals of November 2020 tracked by GlobalData were:

1) Endeavour Mining’s $1.86bn acquisition of Teranga Gold

2) The $150m acquisition of Monarch Gold by Yamana Gold

3) MegumaGold’s $34.73m acquisition of Supreme Metals

4) The $15m asset transaction with Deloitte Restructuring by Champion Iron

5) Orion Mine Finance Fund III’s private equity deal with Caldas Gold for $14.96m.
