New Caledonia accounts for 7% of global production, with the other largest producers being Indonesia (39%), the Philippines (12%), Russia (8%) and Australia (6%). Exports of nickel from New Caledonia increased by 8% to 7,684kt in 2022 over 2021, with the highest share being exported to the Republic of Korea. New Caledonia’s nickel exports are expected to grow at a CAGR of 2% between 2022 and 2026, to 8,271kt by 2026.
Leading producers of nickel in New Caledonia are Eramet, Vale, Glencore and Sumitomo Metal Mining. Eramet's output was 50.26kt in 2021, down by 5% on 2020. Vale produced 31.09kt, a decrease of 22%, and output from Glencore was 15.69kt, a decrease of 7% on the previous year.
