Notably, the number of future of work-related patent applications in the mining industry was 115 in Q1 2023, versus 124 in the prior quarter.
The top five companies accounted for 57% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that JFE filed the most future of work patents within the mining industry in Q1 2023. The company filed 20 future of work-related patents in the quarter, compared with 22 in the previous quarter. It was followed by China Baowu Steel Group with 20 future of work patent filings, Kobe Steel (18 filings), and Jeffery Steel (6 filings) in Q1 2023.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 44% share of total patent filings
The largest share of future of work related patent filings in the mining industry in Q1 2023 was in China with 44%, followed by Japan (20%) and South Korea (5%). The share represented by China was 2% higher than the 43% share it accounted for in Q4 2022.
