Mipac, a global leader in operational technology and process control, has successfully delivered a critical infrastructure upgrade for a leading United States smelter. The project, designed to enhance the site’s operational stability, focused on improving real-time visibility of plant data and refining the smelter’s long-term information management strategy.
Mipac modernised the PI System architecture and configuration, established a structured PI Asset Framework (PI-AF), and implemented intuitive PI Vision dashboards. These upgrades now enable plant operators and metallurgists to make faster, better-informed decisions across the operation.
“This project speaks to the power of data context in improving smelter performance,” said Mipac Managing Director Eddie de Rivera. “By structuring the data environment and making insights more accessible, we’ve helped set the foundation for more effective optimisation in the future.”
A key outcome of the project was the improved alignment between operational teams and technical services, who now benefit from a unified data model and shared visualisation tools. This coherence across departments supports more consistent reporting, tighter process control, and faster response times to emerging issues, critical in high-throughput smelting environments.
The engagement is part of a broader trend in the sector toward digital maturity, where legacy systems are being reconfigured to unlock more value from existing data. Mipac’s structured approach—rooted in domain expertise and deep knowledge of mineral processing—ensures that data transformation efforts aren’t just cosmetic but translate into meaningful gains in production stability and decision confidence.
