SAFEmine has released a free white paper on Mining Technology about the challenges associated with traffic on single-lane mine access roads, in particular the Hecla’s Greens Creek Mine in Alaska.

The requirements at this particular mine were challenging, and included alerting a driver to an approaching vehicle out of line-of-sight and as far away as 300m in order to provide time to react. In addition, no data communications infrastructure was available along the haulage road, which required the use of peer-to-peer notification between vehicles.
