Norsemont Mining has expanded the land package at the Choquelimpie project in northern Chile, increasing its total area to 9,048 hectares (ha) with the addition of 3,291ha of newly staked claims.
The ongoing geological interpretations and the identification of extensions to known mineralised trends led to the selection of the new ground.
The recently staked claims are located along established access corridors, which are expected to provide efficient routes for future exploration and development.
Norsemont owns 100% of the Choquelimpie project, which is situated 185km east of the Arica and Parinacota region.
The project is situated at elevations between 4,600m and 4,900m, and is described as a past-producing, high-sulfidation epithermal gold-silver system.
Norsemont Mining CEO Marc Levy said: “As the company continues to explore and develop the extensive mineralisation at Choquelimpie, we are excited that our geological team has identified several extensions to existing geological trends and opportunities along existing roadways for future exploration and development.
“We continue to add value and advance Choquelimpie through our systematic technical and engineering work. Drilling is ongoing and we look forward to further results as they become available.”
According to Norsemont, the site was originally developed by Royal Dutch Shell and produced approximately 415,000oz of gold and two million ounces of silver between 1988 and 1992. At that time, it was reported to be the third-largest gold producer in Chile.
The Choquelimpie project hosts an NI 43-101-compliant resource of 2.18 million indicated and 557,000 inferred gold-equivalent ounces, as of April 2025.
The project contains substantial existing infrastructure including roads, power supply, water, camp facilities and a previously operational 3,000t-per-day mill.
To date, more than 1,720 drill-holes have been completed at the site.
In February this year, Norsemont drilled the first seven holes of the phase three programme at the Choquelimpie site, for a total of 1,650m.
