Greenland Mines contracts Nordisk Fundering for Skaergaard drilling

The programme is set to include around 7,500m of helicopter-supported core drilling in Greenland.

Greenland Mines has signed a diamond drilling contract with Nordisk Fundering for the former company's 80%-owned Skaergaard precious and critical metals project in south-east Greenland.

The upcoming programme, part of the 2026 field campaign, is set to include nearly 7,500m of helicopter-supported core drilling.

The campaign will focus on several technical objectives including advancing resource categories and collecting additional metallurgical material for ongoing studies.

It also includes conducting geotechnical characterisation aimed at evaluating potential open-pit development scenarios.

The company stated that helicopter and logistical support have also been arranged for the 2026 season, and that the icebreaker and accommodation base camp vessel with a helicopter platform have been secured.

Drilling activities are set to utilise three helicopter-portable rigs, each capable of operating on both rock and selected ice-covered sites across the Skaergaard licence area.

The campaign will employ a mix of HQ and NQ core drilling using both vertical and angled holes, with specific targets selected for future resource conversion, geotechnical data collection and metallurgical studies.

Nordisk Fundering is a Scandinavian-based contractor with substantial experience in Arctic and Greenlandic drilling projects.

Greenland Mines highlighted the contractor's geotechnical expertise as valuable for gathering rock-mass characterisation data required for mine planning and potential pit-wall design.

The drilling forms part of a broader effort at Skaergaard, where Greenland Mines is working with GTK Mintec on metallurgical and processing test work as well as flowsheet development.

These studies are being undertaken to provide additional data to support future economic assessments.

Greenland Mines president Bo Møller Stensgaard said: “Signing the drilling contract with Nordisk Fundering is another important execution milestone for our 2026 Skaergaard campaign.

“We are bringing together drilling, metallurgy, bulk-sample preparation, logistics and engineering-oriented fieldwork in a coordinated programme designed to strengthen the technical foundation of the project and advance Skaergaard toward future open-pit evaluation and broader development studies.”
