The collaboration with XCMG is a key component of BHP’s Emerging Markets strategy.

BHP is set to partner with XCMG Mining Equipment to deliver fleet solutions across its operations throughout the globe.

The collaboration, formalised through a global agreement framework, will focus on planning and deploying mining equipment that meets BHP's safety, technical and sustainability standards.

The agreement includes joint engineering efforts, support services localisation and alignment on the preparedness of emerging technology.

It does not commit to specific market shares but will facilitate ongoing discoveries, especially for fleet, components and possible end-to-end solutions at BHP sites.

The partnership is indicative of BHP's focus on supply chain resilience, operational technology evolution and strategic engagement with manufacturing partners in key regions.

Additionally, the company will be able to diversify its supplier base, working with competitive original equipment manufacturers that can meet its fleet, automation and decarbonisation needs.

BHP group procurement officer Rashpal Bhatti said: “This partnership with XCMG reflects BHP’s approach to working closely with strategic suppliers to shape the future of mining technology.

“By combining our operational insight with XCMG’s innovation capability, we are supporting the development of safer, more sustainable fleet solutions. It is a strong step towards reducing emissions across our operations.”

This collaboration with XCMG is a key component of BHP’s Emerging Markets strategy, which seeks to unlock cost efficiencies and supply resilience by engaging non-traditional suppliers.

Furthermore, the partnership aligns with BHP's initiative to develop future-ready equipment supply models that support digitalisation, decarbonisation and cost-effective operations.

The move comes after Metso signed a three-year agreement to supply metallic liners for chute solutions to BHP, specifically for its Western Australia iron ore operations.
