ReElement Technologies has entered into a partnership with Transition Equity Partners (TEP) to boost global rare earth refining capacity and strengthen critical mineral supply chains in the US.

Under the agreement, TEP provided a $200m strategic equity facility to speed up the commercial rollout of ReElement’s multi-mineral refining platform, starting with an expansion of its facility in Marion, Indiana.

The Marion plant will specialise in processing both light and heavy rare earth elements (HREEs), along with other key defence-related minerals, using ReElement’s chromatographic separation technology.

Backed by TEP, the Marion facility is expected to scale to more than 10,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) of refined critical minerals, drawing on recycled materials as well as mined mixed rare earth concentrates.

The plant has been designed for additional expansion, both at the Marion location and at other selected sites.

ReElement is building large-scale critical mineral processing and refining operations to bolster key US supply chains.

This work includes a collaboration with the US Department of War and Vulcan Elements to help establish a fully domestic, vertically integrated rare earth magnet supply chain.

ReElement is also working with POSCO International Corporation to enhance US-based capabilities in critical mineral and magnet production.

ReElement Technologies CEO Mark Jensen said: “We are excited to partner with Transition Equity Partners. Throughout this process, it became clear that we are closely aligned culturally and mission-wise – an alignment we believe is essential to addressing supply-chain challenges quickly while building long-term shareholder value.

“The $200m commitment will enable ReElement to expand its manufacturing base initially in the US and, over time, globally, to process and refine critical minerals and rare earth elements through a cost-competitive, modular and scalable platform.”

Beyond magnet-related supply chains, ReElement’s refining platform is designed to address demand for HREEs and other critical defence materials that are not currently produced at scale within the US.
