Germany-based ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions and Siemens have agreed to extend their collaboration in the mining sector for another five years.
The extension comes due to the pressures still faced by the mining industry to reduce operating costs and improve productivity.

As agreed, the companies will continue to offer new transport systems to the mining sector going forward.
Thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions business area chairman of the management board Jens Michael Wegmann said: “Conveying technology must keep up with the complex requirements of the modern mining industry. We want to continue offering our customers reliable and highly efficient conveyor systems.
“It is only possible to optimise modern mechatronic belt drive systems like this by working in close cooperation with a partner because the mechanics and the motor form a self-contained unit.”
Siemens Process Industries and Drives division CEO Jürgen Brandes said: “We are happy to be able to keep on supporting Thyssenkrupp with our time-proven direct drive systems featuring Sinamics cycloconverters and rugged synchronous motors, which have undergone continuous further development in recent years.”

By GlobalDataThe company will provide a 3MW-10MW motor series along with the associated converter systems to satisfy the increasing performance demanded by the sector.
In recent years, both Thyssenkrupp and Siemens have collaborated on various joint projects.
Earlier, Thyssenkrupp provided the conveyor system for Xstrata Copper in the Antapaccay and Las Bambas copper mines in Peru.
