Canadian mining and exploration firm Monarques Resources has released preliminary results of the latest diamond drilling campaign at the Simkar Gold project.

As part of the campaign, 19 holes totalling 8,055m were drilled and were primarily aimed at extending the gold-mineralised horizons identified earlier as the A, B, C, D, East and South zones.

The secondary goal of the campaign was to develop and test new models of the same structures.

According to Monarques, SK13-01, SK13-02 and SK13-04 holes intersected 38.35m, 66m and 28.20m of gold mineralisation, respectively, at grades up to 3.86grams per tonne of gold.

Monarques claims that the mineralised interval in SK13-02 appears to be associated with Zone D, whereas holes SK13-01 and SK13-04 have mineralised intervals that are closer to surface and south of Zone D.

Québec-based MRB & Associates designed the campaign, supervised the program and logged and sampled the drill core by implementing QA/QC procedures to ensure best practices in sampling and analysis.

The drill core was logged and then split, while duplicates, standards and blanks were inserted regularly into the sample stream that were sent in secure tagged bags to Technilab’s facility in Val-d’Or, Québec.

After crushing and pulverising, the samples were assayed for gold content using conventional fire assaying with 30g fusions and atomic absorption spectrometry finish, said Monarques.

Located 20km east of Val-d’Or, Québec in the Abitibi Greenstone Belt, the project is currently being explored by Monarques, pursuant to a joint venture agreement with gold and base metals explorer Eloro Resources.

Monarques acquired a 50% stake in the Simkar Gold project in September 2013.
