Endeavour Silver has temporarily closed part of its Guanaceví silver-gold mine in Durango State, Mexico, following a fatal accident.

The company reported the death of an employee at its Porvenir Cuatro mine, which forms part of the Guanacevi mine operations.

Endeavour Silver said that the death was caused by a rock fall on 28 March.

An internal investigation has been completed and the company is currently working with Mexican authorities to facilitate an external investigation into the accident.

"We will take every measure to try and prevent such accidents from recurring." 

Endeavour said that the company will review and implement any recommended safety measures once the investigation is completed, to prevent such accidents in the future.

The Porvenir Cuatro will remain closed until Mexican authorities approve the mine re-opening, Endeavour said.

Endeavour Silver CEO Bradford Cooke said the safety of the employees is a top priority for the company.

"We will take every measure to try and prevent such accidents from recurring and we will ensure the family is well cared for," Cooke said.

Endeavour Silver has three producing silver mines in Mexico comprising the Guanaceví mine, the Bolañitos and El Cubo mines in the state of Guanajuato.

Organic expansion programmes are currently underway at Endeavour’s three silver-gold mines in Mexico, combined with its strategic acquisition and exploration programmes.

Endeavour Silver also has a portfolio of exploration properties that are planned to undergo exploration and drilling this year.
