Before securing the permit, the operation depended on periodic extensions of its 2014 MAE permit from SAEPF for continuous operations.

The agency also gave approval to Kumtor for its 2016 maximum allowable discharge (MAD) permit, which allows for discharge of treated effluent.

The company hopes to receive environmental expertise (approval) of Kumtor’s 2016 mine plan before 30 June this year.

"The mine has produced more than 10.4 million ounces of gold since 1997."

With the MAE and MAD permits in place and the receipt of environmental services, Kumtor will be able to continue its operations throughout the second half of this year.
