Australian Zirconia (AZL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alkane Resources, has secured an environmental protection licence (EPL) from the state’s Environment Protection Authority for its Dubbo Zirconia project in New South Wales.

Specifying the project emission limits to air, land and water, the EPL details environmental monitoring and reporting requirements.

According to AZL, part of the EPL terms includes the payment of a licence fee by the company to fund the EPA, in order to monitor the project’s compliance.

The latest approval is the final major step in the approvals process required for the project and allows the company to proceed with construction.

So far, the company received approval from the New South Wales Planning Assessment Commission (PAC), NSW Department of Industry, Division of Resources and Energy, and the EPA, covering the construction period of the project.

Approval has also been granted under the federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 for the proposed mining of the Toongi deposit.

At present, AZL has two projects, including the Tomingley Gold Operations (TGO) and the DZP.

Cash flow from TGO will be used to maintain the project development pipeline and will also assist with the pre-construction development of the DZP.

DZP secured development approval from the NSW Planning Assessment Commission on 28 May 2015.

On 24 August 2015, the company received notification that the federal Department of the Environment evaluated the mining project and its impacts, and approved its development.
