Green Technology Metals has obtained two additional 21-year mining leases for the Seymour lithium project in Ontario, Canada, from the provincial Ministry of Mines.

Combined with the lease granted in December 2023, the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX)-listed company now holds full lease coverage for the planned construction site.

Regulators have confirmed that the project will only require Ontario’s environmental assessment, with no federal review under the Impact Assessment Act.

Green Technology Metals expects to complete the provincial assessment in the next quarter.

Managing director Cameron Henry said: “Our focus remains on advancing the Seymour Project, with a particular emphasis on securing the key permits and approvals required to bring the project into development. The granting of these mining leases marks a major milestone on that critical path and demonstrates our team’s deep understanding of the permitting process and our capability to execute.

“Securing the required mining leases for Seymour significantly de-risks the project and provides the foundation for development of key infrastructure. This achievement reflects four years of sustained effort and a strong, collaborative relationship with the Ontario Ministry of Mines. With the mining leases now in place, this allows us to check off another critical requirement in the permitting process, which is well advanced.”

Located near Armstrong, 230km north of Thunder Bay, the Seymour project is moving from exploration to development.

It comprises a land holding of 15,140 hectares.

Since acquiring the project in 2021, Green Technology Metals has carried out baseline environmental studies, species-specific surveys and ongoing monitoring.

Indigenous consultation is ongoing, with input being incorporated into project planning and permitting.

A closure plan, required for development approval, is in preparation, with technical studies and engineering designs submitted to regulators.

Green Technology Metals said it is addressing feedback from indigenous communities, stakeholders and government agencies.

“We remain dedicated to working through the remaining steps to bring Seymour closer to construction and production, and we sincerely thank our indigenous partners and stakeholders for their ongoing engagement throughout this process,” Henry concluded.
