Erdene Resource Development has launched the first phase of the 2018 drilling programme at its wholly owned Bayan Khundii gold project in south-west Mongolia.

The programme is initially set to focus on the new North Midfield zone, where drilling operations conducted during last year returned the highest grade gold zone at the project since its discovery.

Erdene Resource Development president and CEO Peter Akerley said: “This drilling will test for extension and continuity of structurally controlled, high-grade gold feeder zones in multiple locations and will be followed by gradual step-out drilling to define the perimeter of the Bayan Khundii gold system in advance of a late Q3-2018 maiden resource estimate.

"This drilling will test for extension and continuity of structurally controlled, high-grade gold feeder zones in multiple locations and will be followed by gradual step-out drilling."

“The Bayan Khundii drill programme will be followed by drill testing of more distal targets at our neighbouring Altan Arrow, Khundii North and Ulaan projects later in Q2.”

Erdene noted that the Q2-2018 programme will include an estimated 5,600m of drilling across approximately 25 diamond drill holes.

The development will test a number of high-priority structural targets within the North Midfield and Midfield zones.

The testing will be based on the structural interpretation and understanding of controls on mineralisation, which was previously completed in the fourth quarter of last year.

In addition, the drilling campaign’s overall objective will be the completion of closer-spaced drilling within the Striker, Midfield and North Midfield zones in order to establish stronger continuity of gold mineralisation.

The campaign will also test certain areas within the larger 1.2km trend.

Erdene claims that the areas show potential for the establishment of additional mineralisation extensions.
