Caledonia Mining has suspended production in a section of the Blanket gold mine in Zimbabwe after the death of a worker in a mining-related incident.
The incident took place in the Blanket Quartz Reef area of the mine.

Operations in the section will remain closed until an investigation is completed by the Zimbabwean Ministry of Mines inspectorate department.
Caledonia Mining CEO Steve Curtis said: “It is with great sadness that we announce a fatal accident at Blanket mine during the night shift on 23 February.
“I join with all of my colleagues and fellow directors in expressing our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.”
Located in the south-west of Zimbabwe, 15km west of Gwanda, the Blanket mine operates at a depth of 750m below surface.

By GlobalDataCaledonia owns a 49% interest in the mine, which produced around 16,425oz of gold for the quarter ended 31 December last year.
Production represents a 14% increase over the level registered in the third quarter of last year.
Overall production for last year stood at around 56,135oz, while output for this year is projected to be between 55,000oz and 59,000oz.
The company intends to increase production from the mine to around 80,000oz in 2021.
