World’s ten largest silver mines in 2021

Here are the ten largest silver mines by production across the world in 2021, according to GlobalData’s mining database.

1. Gumuskoy Mine

The Gumuskoy Mine is a surface mine situated in Kutahya, Turkey. Owned by Yildizlar SSS Holding, the brownfield mine produced an estimated 34.6 million ounces of silver in 2021.

2. Penasquito Mine

Located in Zacatecas, Mexico, the Penasquito Mine is owned by Newmont. The surface mine produced an estimated 34.5 million ounces of silver in 2021. The mine will operate until 2032.

3. Rudna Mine

The Rudna Mine is an underground mine located in Lower Silesian, Poland. Owned by KGHM Polska Miedz, the brownfield mine produced an estimated 16.6 million ounces of silver in 2021. The mine will operate until 2042.

4. Antamina Mine

Owned by Glencore Plc, the Antamina Mine is a surface mine situated in Ancash, Peru. The brownfield mine produced an estimated 17.7 million ounces of silver in 2021. The expected mine closure date is 2028.

5. Mantos Blancos Mine

The Mantos Blancos Mine is a surface mine situated in Santiago, Chile. Owned by Orion Fund JV, the brownfield mine produced an estimated 18.1 million ounces of silver in 2021. The mine is expected to operate until 2035.

6. San Julian Project

The San Julian Project is an underground mine situated in Chihuahua, Mexico. Owned by Industrias Penoles Sde CV, the greenfield mine produced an estimated 13.2 million ounces of silver in 2021. The mine will operate until 2024.

7. Santa Elena Mine (Mexus Gold)

Located in Sonora, Mexico, the Santa Elena Mine (Mexus Gold) is owned by Mexus Gold. The underground mine produced an estimated 14.8 million ounces of silver in 2021.

8. Dukat Mine

The Dukat Mine is a surface and underground mine located in Magadan Oblast, Russia. Owned by Polymetal International Plc, the greenfield mine produced an estimated 14.7 million ounces of silver in 2021. The mine will operate until 2028.

9. Cannington Mine

Owned by South32, the Cannington Mine is an underground mine situated in Queensland, Australia. The greenfield mine produced an estimated 13.7 million ounces of silver in 2021. The expected mine closure date is 2031.

10. Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mine

The Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mine is an underground mine situated in Lower Silesian, Poland. Owned by KGHM Polska Miedz, the greenfield mine produced an estimated 14.3 million ounces of silver in 2021. The mine is expected to operate until 2057.
