Ten biggest producing underground mines in Asia-Pacific in 2021

Here are the ten largest underground mining projects by production in Asia-Pacific in 2021, according to GlobalData’s mining database.

1. Daliuta-Huojitu Mine

The Daliuta-Huojitu Mine is a coal mining project in Shaanxi, China. The greenfield project is owned by China Shenhua Energy and is due to operate until 2055. The mine produced an estimated 49.1Mt of ROM in 2021. It had an estimated production of 31.1 million tonnes of coal in 2021.

2. Bulianta Mine

The Bulianta Mine is a coal mine owned by China Shenhua Energy. Located in Inner Mongolia, China, the greenfield mine produced approximately 39.2Mt of ROM in 2021. It had an estimated production of 28.3 million tonnes of coal in 2021. The expected mine closure date is 2034.

3. Grasberg Block Cave Mine

Located in Papua, Indonesia, the Grasberg Block Cave Mine is a copper mining project owned by Inalum. The mine is expected to operate until 2041.

The brownfield mine produced an estimated 26.4Mt of ROM in 2021. It had an estimated production of 295.5 thousand tonnes of copper in the same year.

4. Buertai Mine

The Buertai Mine is a coal mine located in Inner Mongolia, China. Owned by China Shenhua Energy, the greenfield project produced an estimated 25.4Mt of ROM in 2021.

The mine had an estimated production of 20.5 million tonnes of coal in 2021.

5. Dataigou Mine

Owned by Glory Harvest Group Holdings, the Dataigou Mine is an iron ore mine situated in Liaoning, China.

The ROM production at the mine produced was approximately 25.2Mt of ROM in 2021. It had an estimated production of 21.4 million tonnes of iron ore in 2021.

6. Yujialiang Mine

The Yujialiang Mine is a coal mining project in Shaanxi, China. The brownfield project is owned by China Shenhua Energy. The mine produced an estimated 23.5Mt of ROM in 2021. It had an estimated production of 15.2 million tonnes of coal in 2021.

7. Jinjie Mine

The Jinjie Mine is a coal mine owned by China Shenhua Energy. Located in Shaanxi, China, the greenfield mine produced approximately 22.7Mt of ROM in 2021. It had an estimated production of 16.7 million tonnes of coal in 2021.

8. Deep Mill Level Zone Mine

Located in Papua, Indonesia, the Deep Mill Level Zone Mine is a copper mining project owned by Inalum. The mine is expected to operate until 2041.

The greenfield mine produced an estimated 21.7Mt of ROM in 2021. It had an estimated production of 242.7 thousand tonnes of copper in the same year.

9. Gansu Huating Mining Complex

The Gansu Huating Mining Complex is a coal mine located in Gansu, China. Owned by Huating Coal Industry Group, the greenfield project produced an estimated 20.8Mt of ROM in 2021.

The mine had an estimated production of 16.9 million tonnes of coal in 2021.

10. Halagou Mine

Owned by China Shenhua Energy, the Halagou Mine is a coal mine situated in Shaanxi, China.

The ROM production at the mine produced was approximately 20Mt of ROM in 2021. It had an estimated production of 13.4 million tonnes of coal in 2021.
