Here are the ten largest surface and underground mining projects by production in Oceania in 2021, according to GlobalData’s mining database.

1. Telfer Mine

The Telfer Mine is a gold mining project in Western Australia, Australia. The brownfield project is owned by Newcrest Mining and is due to operate until 2024. The mine produced an estimated 25.3Mt of ROM in 2021. It had an estimated production of 416.1 thousand ounces of gold in 2021.

2. Moolarben Mine

The Moolarben Mine is a coal mine owned by Yancoal Australia. Located in New South Wales, Australia, the brownfield mine produced approximately 20.4Mt of ROM in 2021. It had an estimated production of 18.4 million tonnes of coal in 2021. The expected mine closure date is 2030.

3. Hunter Valley Operations

The Mount Isa Zinc Mine is a zinc mine owned by Glencore Plc. Located in Queensland, Australia, the greenfield mine produced approximately 8.1Mt of ROM in 2021. It had an estimated production of 329.8 thousand tonnes of zinc in 2021. The expected mine closure date is 2029.

8. Ensham Mine

Located in Queensland, Australia, the Ensham Mine is a coal mining project owned by Idemitsu Kosan. The mine is expected to operate until 2037.

The greenfield mine produced an estimated 5.8Mt of ROM in 2021. It had an estimated production of 5.4 million tonnes of coal in the same year.

9. Macraes Goldfield Mines

The Macraes Goldfield Mines is a gold mine located in Otago, New Zealand. Owned by OceanaGold, the brownfield project produced an estimated 4.9Mt of ROM in 2021.

The mine had an estimated production of 130.3 thousand ounces of gold in 2021. The Macraes Goldfield Mines will operate until 2028.

10. Mount Morgans Gold Project

Owned by Dacian Gold, the Mount Morgans Gold Project is a gold mine situated in Western Australia, Australia. The mine is expected to operate until 2027.

The ROM production at the mine produced was approximately 3.9Mt of ROM in 2021. It had an estimated production of 106.9 thousand ounces of gold in 2021.
