Five largest coal mines in Mexico in 2021

Here are the five largest coal mines by production in Mexico, according to GlobalData’s mining database.

1. Micare Mine

The Micare Mine is a surface and underground mine located in Coahuila. It is owned by Altos Hornos de Mexico Sde CV and produced an estimated 6,124 Thousand Tonnes of coal in 2021.

2. Mimosa Unit Project

Located in Coahuila, the Mimosa Unit Project is owned by Altos Hornos de Mexico Sde CV. The surface and underground mine produced an estimated 2,617 Thousand Tonnes of coal in 2021. The mine will operate until 2053.

3. Progreso Mine

The Progreso Mine is located in Coahuila. It is owned by Carbonifera De San Patricio, De and produced an estimated 1,339 Thousand Tonnes of coal in 2021.

4. Santa Barbara Coal Mine

The Santa Barbara Coal Mine, owned by Mineria y Energia del Noreste, de, is a surface mine located in Coahuila. The mine produced an estimated 42.6 Thousand Tonnes of coal in 2021.

5. Tajo La Conquista Mine

Owned by Mineria y Energia del Noreste, de, the Tajo La Conquista Mine is a surface mine located in Coahuila. It produced an estimated 20.6 Thousand Tonnes of coal in 2021.
