Canadian company Dundee Precious Metals (DPM) has selected Exyn Technologies’ Advanced Autonomous Aerial Robot (A3R) to advance its initiative for the digitisation and automation of its underground gold mining operations.

The fully autonomous robot is used for data collection in GPS-denied environments. Customers in the US, Latin America and Europe are already using it as a service.

Dundee Precious Metals Digital Innovation vice-president Theophile Yameogo said: “The Exyn A3Rs allow frequent and high-resolution mapping of underground environments while reducing risks to personnel.

“As we further integrate the A3Rs into our workflow, we anticipate a transformation of operations compared to today’s models.”

The A3Rs are integrated with Exyn’s exynAI software platform that enables full autonomy for aerial robots.

DPM is using Exyn’s aerial robots to automate mapping and surveying and is improving the quality of mapping data captured in the underground operations.

Furthermore, the company is improving safety by reducing the amount of time spent underground by human operators.

The A3R can also give accurate and up-to-date information for mine planning, thereby increasing operational efficiency at DPM’s mining operations.

Exyn’s A3Rs, which are capable of operating without a human pilot, are fully self-contained and have been designed to operate without the need for any prior information or communication.

With the help of Exyn’s multi-sensor data fusion pipeline, each robot can optimally assimilate measurements from various onboard sensors including 3D LIDAR, cameras, and inertial sensors.

The robots can also perform real-time simultaneous localisation and mapping to enable highly accurate map generation.
