Canada-based Yukon-Nevada Gold has installed two conveyors to replace a faulty bucket elevator at its Jerritt Canyon gold processing facility in Nevada, US, allowing the production of 10,964 ounces of gold for July 2012.
The problematic bucket elevator in the fine crushing unit caused significant downtime due to persistent mechanical failure, resulting in production losses.
Following the installation from the site’s equipment inventory, the conveyors enabled crushing operations at more than 300t an hour, an increase from the current ore roasters’ capacity of 220t an hour.
Operating above capacity, the facility mined 27,300t in July 2012 and is expected to mine 1,200t a day until September 2012.
Yukon-Nevada Gold Co-CEO and COO Randy Reichert said that installation of the conveyor offers a permanent solution to the setbacks at the fine crushing unit and serves as an elimination of all mill operational restrictions to function at capacity, as allowed by the Consent Decree of 5,280t a day.
"Our team at Jerritt Canyon did an excellent job removing the bucket elevator and installing the new conveyors in such a short period of time," Reichert said. "This has allowed us to remain on track to meet planned production targets for 2012."
