Teck Resources will invest $685m in expansion projects at two of its facilities in British Columbia, Canada.
The company plans to invest $210m to construct a new slag fuming furnace and a settling furnace will integrate into the existing lead smelting process for the No. 4 Furnace project at Trail Operations.
Construction is scheduled to begin next year and will complete in 2014.
The firm will also invest $475m to renovate and extend the life of the mill at the Highland Valley Copper project in order to match the expected mine life.
The upgrade works are expected to increase the mill’s throughput by about 10% and copper recoveries by about 2%.
