Australian iron ore company Fortescue Metals (FMG) has selected Ecologia, an independent environmental consultancy, to conduct several biological assessment projects across the Pilbara region in Western Australia.
These projects, located across the Pilbara, comprise assessments on flora and vegetation, vertebrate fauna, short range endemic invertebrate and subterranean fauna.
Ecologia will provide Fortescue with an established team to help service the mining company’s current exploration programme in the Pilbara region.
FMG has holdings of over 87,000km² in the Pilbara, with two primary areas of operation within the region; the Chichester Hub and Solomon Hub.
Ecologia general manager Lazaro Roque-Albelo said of the deal, "It strengthens our existing relationship with Fortescue and our history allows us to provide a service tailored to Fortescue’s expectations."
Ecologia offers sustainable environmental strategies, management and monitoring solutions to the mining industry and governments, and employs 40 professional scientists.
Other Ecologia clients include Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton, AngloGold Ashanti, Clough, Department of Environment and Conservation in Western Australia, Grange Resources, Hancock Prospecting, Brockman Resources, Engenium, FerrAus Limited, John Holland, Leighton, Main Roads Western Australia, SKM, Sinosteel Midwest Corporation, Gindalbie Metals and Mount Gibson Iron Ore.
