China’s Zijin Mining has been fined $1.43m for wastewater leaks this summer.

The fine follows an on-site investigation that found there had been two leakages of acidic copper solution in July which dumped toxic waste into Fujian province’s Ting River, killing fish and polluting drinking water.

In addition to the fine, Zijin is also required to implement rectification measures and clear up pollution, according to an administrative decision announced by the Fujian Provincial Department of Environmental Protection.
